S. M. S. M. Institute, Trivandrum is one of the largest handicrafts showroom run by any state government. The showroom is located at a heritage building and hosts a vast range of handcrafted masterpieces. The unit is managed by Handicrafts Development Corporation of Kerala Ltd. Incorporated in 1968 as a Government of Kerala Undertaking to facilitate the resurgence of Handicrafts sector of Kerala through Marketing, Development and Welfare activities. Around one lakh artisans of Kerala are being serviced by the Corporation. The produce of the artisans are being procured by the Corporation for marketing by giving fair prices. It has been, in its quest to improve the quality of life of artisans, implementing various welfare schemes for them. Empowering artisans to ensure sustainable & comprehensive development is the major lifeline of the Corporation. It has been a channelising agency of major National Funding Agencies to the artisan community in Kerala. Handicrafts Development Corporation of Kerala Ltd. is a non-profit motive organization.
